American Humane Society Luncheon – Al Malnik & Martha Stewart

Guests at the March 2011 American Humane Society luncheon took extra care when choosing the correct fork.  That’s because among the 400-plus guest list gathered at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, was guest of honor, Martha Stewart.  During the luncheon, Stewart was awarded the “National Humanitarian Medal” by the society for her tireless efforts to help animals.
On their Web site, the society said they chose Stewart because she “embodies the true American values of compassion, caring and hope.”  They cited the fact that Stewart has been an “advocate for animal adoption, proper pet care and human-animal interaction.”
Stewart’s compassionate reach extends beyond our four-legged friends as well.   She created the Martha Stewart Center for Living in memory of her mother.  The center ensures all people can live healthy and robust lives as they age.  Stewart also donated her time and talents to the American Cancer Society’s “more birthdays” program which culminated with four winners from their breast cancer awareness movement receiving signed cards from the super-crafty businesswoman.
In addition to her trip to South Florida to receive the award, Stewart has been a frequent Miami Beach visitor this year, She teamed up with Emeril Lagasse to host the “Let Them Eat Cake” party in March and later joined party-goers at The Forge restaurant for some late-night socializing.  Stewart was spotted again at the restaurant when she attended a birthday bash for The Forge owner, Shareef Malnik.
